Cataract starts 2-0 in Rochester Pop Warner

Two games in, Cataract Little Loop’s move to Pop Warner is working out just fine.

The Steelers and All-Stars won their openers in the Rochester Pop Warner league, the first for each in the division.

Antwain Gandy Jr. hit everything that moved, tallying 20 tackles for the Steelers in a 27-0 win over the Greece Chargers. Zion Paige, Ja’Shawn Prather, Paul Rodgers and Joe Dixon added to the ‘D,’ which allowed only one first down.

Jayson Hunter, Donald Sinclair and Herman Wooten III powered an offensive line that paved the way for three backs to top 100 yards on the ground, led by over 200 all-purpose yards, two rushing scores and one receiving TD from Gandy. Paige caught one touchdown and threw another, then chipped in almost 100 yards on returns. Dixon threw for just under 200 yards and topped 100 on the ground.

• Roderick Miller ran for 105 yards and two scored and Anthony Lozina hit Jacob Winn for two more as the Cataract All-Stars won their first game in the Greater Rochester Pop Warner League, defeating the Monroe County team 27-6. Jermaine Atkins added 45 yards on the ground and converted an extra point, while Miller and Xavier Capton recovered key fumbles. Amari Wallace had 3 1/2 tackles to lead the defense, which totaled four sacks.
